MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - After two successive days washed out by rain, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders returned to the diamond on a sunny afternoon on February 24 for a doubleheader against the Bradley Braves.
The Blue Raiders earned a 1-0 win in a pitcher's duel in Game 1 with Peyton Wigginton going the distance on the mound. The sophomore rang up 12 strikeouts against just one walk while scattering four hits for the win.
The winning run, meanwhile, came courtesy of the bottom of the lineup in the bottom of the fifth frame. That's when No. 8 hitter Darrell Freeman, Jr., was hit by a pitch leading off. He moved to second on a single by No. 9 hitter Darien Prewett before a sacrifice by Nick Carnevale at the top of the order advanced the runners to second and third. Drew Huff's deep fly to center then scored Freeman, and Wigginton made it stand for the win.
Game two was a low-scoring affair as well with Bradley escaping with a 2-1 win.
