Blue Raiders whip 49ers in C-USA action

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - For the second time in 16 days, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders hosted the Charlotte 49ers.

And for the second time in as many meetings, the Blue Raiders earned their biggest win of the season against Division I competition.

The Blue Raiders beat the 49ers by 18 points - 71-53 - back on February 7 before beating them again on February 23 by 19 in an 86-67 rout. To be sure, the 49ers are one of C-USA's worst teams falling to 6-20 with the second of those losses, but in a season with few highlights, the Blue Raiders, just 9-19 themselves, will take any sizable win they can get.

The hosts got it done by winning the turnover battle 19-9 while shooting a blistering 62.3 percent from the field. Five Blue Raiders finished in double figures with Antonio Green and Donovan Sims each reaching the 20-point mark with 21 and 20, respectively. James Hawthorne (12 points), Reggie Scurry (11) and Karl Gamble (10) were the other double-digit scorers.

Charlotte got 23 from Jon Davis and 17 more from Malik Martin in the losing effort.
